Go-Ahead Group is a leading international public transport operator providing bus and rail services across the UK and internationally. We play an important role in connecting communities and helping people travel safely and sustainably every day.

About the Role

Go-Ahead Group is seeking a Fleet Technical Quality Manager to join our Engineering team at Friars Yard, London. Working across Go-Ahead Group and local Operating Companies, this specialist role focuses on vehicle procurement and parts quality — overseeing the technical aspects of vehicle purchasing from specification through to post-delivery inspection and the creation of initial maintenance schedules. You will work directly with manufacturers during the build process, support OpCos with inspections, and provide technical leadership on parts evaluation, playing a vital role in ensuring Go-Ahead’s fleet meets the highest standards of quality, compliance and value.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Specification & Procurement: Advise on and oversee new vehicle specification, working with OpCo and procurement teams to optimise specifications with a view on performance and value. Work with manufacturers through the build process to ensure compliance to specification and promote high-quality build standards. Follow up with manufacturers on any deficiencies identified during build or post-delivery, ensuring full resolution and contractual compliance. Create the initial Technical Maintenance Schedule (TMS) for all new fleet additions.
  • Post-Delivery Inspection & Quality Assurance: Support OpCos with Post-Delivery Inspections (PDIs), setting a consistent standard for inspection and ensuring the full value of each purchase contract is achieved; drive quality assurance across the vehicle lifecycle from delivery through to operational service.
  • Parts Quality & Technical Evaluation: Provide technical leadership and management of the technical equivalent parts evaluation process, ensuring parts meet the required quality, safety and performance standards across Go-Ahead’s fleet.
  • Technical Expertise & Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a technical authority across Group and OpCo engineering teams on PSV manufacturing, associated legislation and specification requirements; collaborate with Engineering, Procurement and OpCo colleagues to drive consistency, quality and value across the fleet.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant PSV qualification; PSV licence with the ability to carry out bus and coach road tests.
  • Proven experience in PSV inspection and maintenance, maintaining vehicles to contractual and legislative standards.
  • Strong understanding of the PSV manufacturing process, associated legislation and government body / customer specification requirements.
  • Experience working with manufacturers during the build process and managing post-delivery inspection programmes across multiple sites or operating companies.
  • Technical knowledge of parts evaluation and equivalent parts standards; able to provide clear technical recommendations to procurement and engineering stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • A technically rigorous engineering professional with a genuine passion for vehicle quality and fleet performance.
  • Detail-oriented and methodical, with the confidence to challenge manufacturers and suppliers where standards are not met.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic — able to work effectively across Group and OpCo teams, building trusted relationships with engineers, procurement colleagues and external partners.
  • Proactive and adaptable, comfortable navigating a multi-site environment and evolving regulatory landscape.

Preferred Skills

If you don’t meet every requirement but feel this role could be right for you, we still encourage you to apply.

Pay range and compensation package

  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing, financial, and emotional support.
  • Flexible working to balance your needs (reduced hours applications will be considered, however 5 days in the office is a requirement).
  • 25 days holiday, pension, life Assurance travel pass, buy and sell holiday up to 5 days, Discount platform.
