The Gloucester Old Spot is seeking an experienced, driven and commercially minded Head Chef to lead the kitchen team at our award-winning, independent pub and events venue in Bristol. Renowned for our fresh, locally sourced food, busy Sunday roasts and thriving functions trade, The Gloucester Old Spot is one of Bristol's most popular destinations for weddings, celebrations, private parties and corporate events. With a large garden, heated marquee and versatile indoor spaces, food plays a central role in delivering memorable guest experiences.

We are looking for a Head Chef who can lead from the front, inspire a team and deliver high-quality food consistently across both day-to-day service and high-volume events. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong Sous Chef ready to step up or an existing Head Chef looking for a fresh challenge within a successful independent business. You will head up a brigade of five chefs in a hands-on leadership role, working closely with the owners to develop menus, drive standards and support the continued growth of our functions and weddings offering.

About the Role
  • Lead and develop the kitchen team to deliver consistently high standards
  • Oversee food delivery across busy service periods, weddings, private functions and large-scale events
  • Create and evolve menus including buffets, event food, seasonal specials and traditional Sunday roasts
  • Manage food GP, supplier relationships and cost control
  • Take full ownership of stock management, ordering and waste reduction
  • Recruit, train and motivate a high-performing kitchen brigade
  • Plan rotas and manage labour costs effectively
  • Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety and kitchen best practice
About You
  • A skilled and organised chef with strong attention to detail
  • A confident leader with a track record of managing busy, high-volume kitchens
  • Experienced in delivering food for functions, weddings or events
  • Commercially aware with strong GP and cost-control knowledge
  • Passionate about fresh food, local produce and great guest experiences
  • Calm under pressure with excellent service leadership
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a senior kitchen management role
