Lead Chef — The Globe , Somerton
**£35,100 per annum (£15 per hour) | Full-time, Permanent (45 hours/week) | Somerton, Somerset TA11 7LX**
---
**We're a busy, family-run pub in the heart of Somerton Market Place, and we need a Lead Chef who can own a kitchen.**
The Globe has been feeding Somerton properly since Chris took over in 2019 — home-cooked pub food, served all day, every day, with a 5-star food hygiene rating and meat sourced from BH Stacey's, our local butcher less than five minutes away.
We're not a gastro pub trying to be a restaurant.
We're a proper pub that takes food seriously, and we need someone who understands the difference.
This is a hands-on lead role.
You'll be running the kitchen during service, keeping standards high, and making sure the team around you knows what they're doing.
It's fast, it's real, and it suits someone who's comfortable in a busy pub kitchen without needing hand-holding.
- ---
- **What the role looks like day to day**
- Leading the kitchen through lunch and evening service, Monday to Sunday
- Preparing and cooking fresh, high-quality pub food to consistent standards
- Keeping the kitchen organised, clean, and running at a 5-star hygiene level
- Training and supporting junior chefs and kitchen staff
- Contributing ideas for seasonal specials and menu updates
- Managing stock sensibly — ordering, rotation, waste
**Contract:** 45 hours per week, with 2 days off every week.
The kitchen is open 12pm–9pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm–6pm Sunday, so you'll be working five days from seven.
We're straight forward about how rotas work here.

- **What we're looking for**
- A solid track record in a senior kitchen role — Head Chef, Sous Chef, or similar.
We'd rather have someone who's done it in a pub than someone with a fine-dining CV who's never run a service on their own.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (Level 3 preferred, not essential — we'll support the right person)
- Someone who leads calmly under pressure and doesn't need drama to get things done
- Local knowledge or local ties are a genuine bonus — we're a community pub and that matters
- **Benefits:**
- Free food on any shift of 6 hours or more
- Staff discounts on food and drink
- Bonus scheme
- Staff car park
- Company pension

- **Who we are**
The Globe is a 17th-century Grade II listed pub on Somerton Market Place.
We've been here a long time and we have big plans for the future.
We run regular live music nights, private functions and events, which means the kitchen sometimes serves big covers.
You'd be part of a small, tight team that takes what it does seriously without taking itself too seriously.
If you're the kind of chef who cares about the food coming out right and wants a stable, senior role in a place you can actually be proud of, we'd love to hear from you
