The role ensures best in class New Product Development (NPD), leading the technical development and delivery of complex packaging solutions for NPD projects, ensuring they are robust, compliant, fit for purpose and meeting brand standards. The role partners closely with cross functional teams and external partners to manage risk, drive quality and sustainability, and ensure successful technical implementation from concept through to launch. The role mentors and supports development of the Packaging Technologist, providing technical guidance and training where required. This role sits within the NPD team, who lead and develop new product, packaging and POSM & branded merchandise projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end technical development, testing and approval for NPD projects.
- Mentor and support the development of NPD Packaging Technologists, providing technical guidance and training where required.
- Lead technical risk assessments, in collaboration with cross functional, internal teams and external partners to identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful project delivery, driving preventative measures and strategies for future developments.
- Work closely with supply partners to translate brand and agency briefs into technically robust, manufacturable and scalable packaging designs.
- Organise and lead new packaging trialling in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure readiness for launch.
- Manage the development, review and the internal and external approval of artworks throughout NPD lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with the quality team to support development of supplier dry goods quality aesthetic standards, aligned with brand requirements.
- Ensures NPD projects meet company, regulatory body and government sustainability targets and regulations.
- Collate sustainability data throughout NPD project, populating and reporting on EPI score for NPD projects.
- Manage purchase orders and invoice management for NPD origination, sampling and tooling requirements.
- Contribute to post project reviews, documenting learnings and supporting implementation of corrective and preventative actions where necessary.
- Actively drives continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and value engineering for cost reduction.
Technical Skills Experience Required
- Extensive experience in developing, testing and approving primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
- Strong knowledge of industry regulatory and sustainability compliance.
- Accomplished in interpreting and validating technical drawings.
- Excellent PC Skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
