About Make Music
Make Music is the name for all of The Glasshouse’s music-making classes, groups, ensembles, and activities for schools and music educators. People of all ages, experience levels and backgrounds sing, play, and create with us.
Make Music: Young People supports any young person aged 4 to 19 find their voice, learn a musical instrument, write, and produce their own songs, meet others to play and sing with, build their confidence, and take part in exciting performances.

Overall purpose of the job
The Centre for Advanced Training Bass Tutor will be part of the CAT Contemporary tutor team working within Make Music: Young People. The role will involve teaching young people, aged 10-18, both individually and, potentially, as part of an ensemble and in preparation for performances on Sundays during term time at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music.
It Would Be Great If You Had Experience In
- Playing to an advanced, professional standard on both electric and double bass
- Working with young people aged 10-18
- Valuing diversity in relation to styles of music
- Experience of teaching a diverse range of jazz, popular and contemporary musical styles
- Performing at a professional level
- Excellent communication skills, both with young people and with colleagues
You’ll Be Responsible For
- Teach young people in 1:1 lessons, working on appropriate instrumental technique and repertoire
- Lead group-based music learning activities where relevant
- Prepare young people for performances as and when needed
- Work closely with the Study Leader to manage learning accreditation and assessment of students
