An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical function across a range of MEP projects within a multidisciplinary consultancy setting.
This role is suited to a technically strong professional who can take ownership of significant electrical design packages, engage confidently with clients and project teams, and contribute to the ongoing development of engineering talent within the business.
Key Responsibilities- Take responsibility for the technical delivery of electrical building services design across various project sectors.
- Shape and define early-stage design approaches in line with project briefs, statutory standards and practical constraints.
- Act as the primary electrical representative in client meetings and wider design team discussions.
- Coordinate effectively with internal teams and external consultants to maintain quality and programme alignment.
- Contribute to commercial awareness by supporting the monitoring of project fees, resource allocation and workload planning.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers at different career stages, including apprentices and graduates.
- Proven experience delivering electrical building services design within a consultancy or design-led environment.
- Demonstrable track record working on complex, multi-disciplinary schemes.
- Strong working knowledge of modern digital delivery tools including BIM, Revit, Dialux, Relux and Electrical OM.
- Solid understanding of UK building regulations, industry standards and best practice.
- Experience supporting commercial oversight including fee management and workload planning.

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate strong technical depth, leadership capability and commercial awareness developed within a building services consultancy environment.
Education and Professional Status- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Working toward or already holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised professional body (e.g., IET or CIBSE) is highly desirable.
- Typically 8–12+ years’ experience in electrical building services design.
- Minimum 3–5 years operating at Senior Engineer level with demonstrable leadership responsibility.
- Proven experience leading electrical packages on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience managing client relationships and representing the electrical discipline in design meetings.
- Exposure to commercial oversight, including fee management and resource planning.
- Strong understanding of UK building regulations, British Standards and industry best practice.
- Proficiency in BIM-led design environments.
- Practical working knowledge of software such as Revit, Dialux, Relux and Electrical OM.
- Experience in low voltage distribution, lighting design, emergency systems, power systems and coordination within full MEP schemes.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers, graduates and apprentices.
- Strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Confident leading client-facing discussions and technical presentations.
- Ability to balance technical excellence with programme and budget constraints.
