We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering consultancy for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join their London office. This office represents one of their largest and most technically diverse teams.
The role focuses on the design and delivery of technically demanding buildings across science, research, and mission-critical sectors, including laboratories, R&D facilities, cleanrooms, healthcare environments, and data centres.
This opportunity offers the chance to work on high-performance, complex projects that require advanced engineering solutions and strict operational reliability. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative building services strategies while supporting the delivery of projects in highly regulated environments.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including digital engineering, sustainability, modelling, fire engineering, and acoustics, helping deliver resilient and future-focused engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a senior technical lead and client interface on science, research, and mission-critical developments.
- Lead the mechanical design and coordination of complex building services systems, particularly HVAC solutions requiring resilience and redundancy.
- Develop project briefs and technical strategies while maintaining responsibility for project delivery, quality, and commercial performance.
- Coordinate input from internal and external stakeholders to deliver integrated design solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers within the team.
- Manage project workloads, review technical outputs, and ensure compliance with programme, cost, and quality requirements.
- Support bid submissions and proposals, contributing technical insight for opportunities within specialist sectors.
- Monitor project budgets, risks, and resource allocation to ensure efficient delivery.
- Proven experience delivering mechanical engineering solutions for laboratories, research facilities, healthcare environments, cleanrooms, or data centres.
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems for critical environments, including ventilation strategies, redundancy planning, and heat rejection systems.
- Experience working within highly regulated and performance-sensitive environments.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD, including coordination of complex mechanical plant and services layouts.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical documentation.
- Solid knowledge of British Standards, CIBSE guidance, and sector-specific design standards.
- Background within a building services consultancy or engineering design environment.
- Competitive salary package: £52,000 – £65,750 with additional annual allowance (£4,560).
