We are seeking a highly skilled Creative Technologist with a strong VFX and production technology background to join The Gate Films, part of Tag Worldwide. Based in Manchester, this role bridges creativity and technology, combining technical innovation, visual effects expertise, and creative problem-solving to deliver pioneering solutions for our clients and partners.
Working within Tag’s global Technology team and closely with The Gate Films’ production and post teams, you’ll play a key role in exploring emerging technologies, developing prototypes, and embedding new creative workflows into live production environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in VFX, motion graphics, or real-time production, and a genuine passion for AI, automation, and next-generation visual tools that drive innovation and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with The Gate Films’ creative and production teams to identify and solve complex VFX and production challenges.
- Develop and implement innovative workflows, tools, and pipelines that enhance visual quality and streamline delivery.
- Lead R&D and prototyping initiatives across VFX, AI, real-time rendering, and automation.
- Work closely with directors, artists, and engineers to translate creative concepts into technically achievable results.
- Partner with Tag’s wider technology and innovation teams to pilot new tools and workflows in real-world production environments.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends in VFX, real-time production, AI-assisted creative tools, and immersive media.
- Build working prototypes that bridge creative ambition and technical execution.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship during production to enhance team speed, consistency, and scalability.
- Share insights and learnings across The Gate Films and Tag Worldwide to support continued innovation and excellence.
- Proven experience in VFX, creative technology, or technical production roles — ideally within a studio or agency setting.
- Strong blend of creative and technical skills, capable of developing and testing new VFX workflows or tools.
- Deep understanding of VFX pipelines, compositing, rendering, and colour management.
- Familiarity with AI, automation, and real-time technologies in post-production and creative workflows.
- Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across creative and non-technical teams.
- Experience in project scoping, prototyping, and rolling out technical innovations.
- Collaborative and adaptable mindset, comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
- Proficiency with VFX and production tools such as Nuke, After Effects, Houdini, Unreal Engine, Blender, Flame, or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript) to automate or extend creative tools.
- Understanding of 3D, virtual production, and real-time rendering environments.
- Experience in commercial post-production, motion design, or CGI.
- Familiarity with agile workflows and rapid prototyping methodologies.
- Exposure to AR/VR, generative design, and AI-assisted creative development.
