We’re looking for a practical, commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our business on a part‑time basis. This is a hands‑on, standalone role supporting the organisation across a broad range of legal and commercial matters, with a strong focus on commercial contracts, governance and stakeholder management. You’ll be someone who enjoys autonomy, builds trusted relationships quickly, and is confident operating as a self‑starter. While you’ll bring solid experience in commercial contracts and core legal risk areas, we’re equally interested in someone who is curious, keen to learn, and motivated to grow the role over time — taking on projects, improving ways of working, and creating efficiencies across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Contractual Support: Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including client engagement agreements, supplier contracts and NDAs. Act as a pragmatic legal partner to the business, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives. Support the ongoing development and maintenance of contract templates and playbooks.
- Projects, Improvement & Efficiency: Identify opportunities to streamline legal processes, reduce friction and improve efficiency, particularly around contracting, including use of AI‑enabled solutions. Lead or support legal‑related projects as the business evolves. Help embed simple, scalable legal ways of working that enable the business to move quickly and confidently.
- Stakeholder Management: Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders across the business. Provide clear, practical legal advice to non‑legal colleagues, helping them understand risk and make informed decisions. Act as a calm, solution‑focused point of contact on legal and contractual queries.
- Governance & Legal Operations: Support the organisation on governance, data protection, AI contractual and policy issues and legal best practice. Work with internal stakeholders to maintain appropriate policies, processes and awareness. Coordinate company secretarial and insurance processes.
Knowledge and Experience
You’ll likely be a qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with experience in a commercial or in‑house legal environment, and you’ll bring:
- Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
- Ability to handle contract volume independently
- Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
- Sound judgement on when to elevate issues
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Working knowledge of data protection
- A self‑starter mindset — proactive, organised and comfortable with ambiguity
