We're the production team behind Friend, a Minecraft roleplay channel with over 1.75 million subscribers and 250M+ long‑form views in the past year. Our content is scripted, directed, and produced in-house with a team of voice actors, writers, editors, developers, and artists. Everything starts with the script; it's the backbone of every video we make.
The Role
We're looking for a Video Screenwriter to take approved video outlines and turn them into full, production‑ready scripts. You'll be handed a beat‑by‑beat outline and our established characters, and your job is to bring it to life: writing the dialogue, shaping the pacing, and delivering a finished script our voice actors can record from, our builders build from, and our editors edit off. This starts as ad‑hoc, project‑by‑project work. From mid‑August 2026 it becomes a fixed part‑time arrangement — 2 days per week, 3:00–10:00 PM BST. We'd expect a productive writing day to land around 4,000–5,000 words of finished script, equalling one finished script per 6‑8 hour working day. This is writing for retention. Our audience skews young (female‑leaning), and they decide whether to keep watching in the first ten seconds. You need to hook fast, keep the stakes clear, and never lose our younger audience in a confusing plot, while still writing something with genuine heart and personality.
Responsibilities
- Develop approved outlines into full, recording‑ready scripts
- Write natural, in‑character dialogue that stays true to our established cast and lore
- Structure every script for retention — strong hook, clear stakes, clean pacing
- Follow our established scene structure and keep objectives simple and easy to follow
- Self‑edit for continuity, tone, and clarity before submitting
- Take revision notes from the senior writer, and turn them around quickly
- Deliver finished scripts on schedule
- Keep your files organised and follow our naming conventions
Requirements
- Demonstrable scriptwriting or narrative writing ability (we'll want to see samples)
- Deep, authentic familiarity with Minecraft and the Minecraft/roleplay YouTube space
- Strong instinct for story structure, hooks, and pacing
- Able to write for a young audience (8–14, female‑leaning) without talking down to them
- Fast and consistent, comfortable producing 4,000–5,000 words of finished script in a working day
- Excellent written English and a sharp ear for dialogue
- Ability to mould your writing style to our established format
- Reliable internet and the ability to commit to the fixed window from August
- Professional, responsive communication — you take direction and feedback well
Nice to Have
- An existing body of written work (YouTube scripts, animation, games, fiction)
- Understanding of YouTube retention, CTR, and average view duration
- Familiarity with the Friend channel specifically and/or our competitors
- Experience writing serialised characters and ongoing lore
- Experience working in a remote production team
Trial Period
All new writers begin with a paid trial — typically one or two scripts — so we can assess fit on both sides before committing to an ongoing arrangement.
