About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cyber Security Engineer to join our growing Cyber Security team at the Francis Crick Institute. The Cyber Security team is responsible for safeguarding the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of Crick data and systems. You will support the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Chief Information Officer (CIO) and wider ITO in shaping and delivering policies, projects and operational processes that enable the Crick’s discovery without boundaries mission. Regular collaboration, advice and reporting to the CISO will be central to your work. You’ll be a key member of the team, working with staff who report directly to the CISO. You’ll also partner closely with teams across the institute, from project sponsors and operational groups to scientific stakeholders and external partners, building strong relationships to ensure security is embedded into everything we do. With significant cyber security experience, you’ll bring strong technical expertise, have the ability to grasp complex concepts quickly, and have a genuine passion for the field.

What you will be doing

  • Operational responsibility for the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of Crick Systems and Data.
  • Triage and escalating threats and alerts independently and in collaboration with the wider team.
  • Ongoing development and maintenance of security monitoring and management tools.
  • Introduction of new processes, policies and tools as required.
  • Retirement of the same as necessary to maintain an efficient, performant Cyber Security team.
  • Effective management of security alerts from across the Crick estate.
  • Implementation of security policy across the Crick IT estate and contributing to ongoing improvements as required.
  • Follow institute policies and procedures; including incident and problem management, appropriate change controls and team standard operating.
  • Act as point of escalation for the team for cyber incidents.

About you

  • Previous experience using CrowdStrike suite of tools.
  • Demonstrable experience of security incident and event management, including vulnerability and threat management.
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge in the field of cybersecurity, threats, and controls.
  • Previous experience or demonstrable understanding in: System hardening, security and password/key/certification management, Penetration testing.
  • Scripting (Shell, Python, Perl, PowerShell), Automation and orchestration (Ansible).
  • Collaborative working using Slack, Dropbox, Trello, Zoom, Atlassian and supporting those tools.
  • A good working understanding of cybersecurity and risk management frameworks.
  • Knowledge of creating, maintaining and troubleshooting rapid development of custom scripts in languages such as PowerShell, Perl and Python, including the use of team source repositories (GitHub).
  • Extensive experience of analysing security requirements across multiple domains ie broad e2e analysis and across multiple technology platforms and applications.
