Working pattern: Monday – Friday. This is a full-time, 4 year fixed term position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.

About the role

Our lab studies how the innate immune system regulates its responses to clear infections effectively while minimizing immune pathology. Our work focuses on neutrophils and their role in immune defence and inflammatory diseases both as antimicrobial effector cells and regulators of inflammation.

We study the mechanisms that regulate neutrophil effector functions such as the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NET), as well as alternative mechanisms of extracellular chromatin release and their role in pathology during severe infection and chronic inflammatory diseases.

We are seeking a motivated immunologist to study topics related to novel neutrophil effector functions, NET clearance, immune dysfunction and neutrophil antimicrobial heterogeneity in the context of immune defence and control of pathology during microbial infection and inflammatory diseases.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be expected to lead your own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and participate in training PhD students. The ability to work in a team is essential.

You should have experience with basic science work that has resulted in a first author publication or in the process of being published.

About you

You will bring

• PhD in immunology, infection biology, biochemistry or cell biology or in the final stages of PhD submission
• Good knowledge and experience in immunology and biochemistry.
• Technical expertise in biochemical, cell biological and mouse work.
• Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications or submitted manuscripts in referred journals
• Evidence of data presentation at scientific meetings
• Experience with experimental design is absolutely essential
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with others

This position is funded by the laboratory’s Crick core funding, and the applicant will be encouraged to apply for fellowships.
