Job Description: Compliance Director – Water Treatment and Water Hygiene Industry (Based in Glasgow) Position Overview The Compliance Director will oversee the regulatory, safety, and operational compliance for all water treatment and water hygiene services, ensuring alignment with industry standards and statutory requirements. Based in Glasgow, this role is instrumental in driving compliance excellence across operations in Scotland and beyond. A critical aspect of the position involves the development and delivery of training programs to enhance compliance knowledge and skills within the team. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a strong background in water quality management, Legionella control, and safety compliance, coupled with proven experience in training and development. Key Responsibilities Compliance Oversight – Ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and international water quality and hygiene regulations, with a focus on Scottish legislation. – Develop, implement, and maintain robust policies and procedures to guarantee adherence to regulatory and industry standards. – Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of water treatment and hygiene systems, identifying areas for improvement and leading corrective actions. – Serve as the primary liaison with Scottish Water, SEPA, and other regulatory authorities, ensuring smooth interactions during inspections, audits, and reporting processes. – Stay informed on legislative changes and emerging risks, updating policies and training accordingly. Training and Development – Design and implement comprehensive training programs for employees on compliance standards, water hygiene best practices, and safety protocols. – Conduct workshops, seminars, and refresher training to ensure staff remain current with regulatory requirements. – Mentor team leaders to enhance their knowledge of compliance frameworks and leadership in operational practices. – Collaborate with external training providers to secure relevant certifications and qualifications for staff. Leadership and Strategic Planning – Act as a key advisor to the senior leadership team, providing insights on compliance matters and industry trends specific to Scotland and the UK. – Integrate compliance objectives into the strategic goals of the business, ensuring a proactive approach to regulation and quality management. – Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure compliance performance and drive continuous improvement. – Lead initiatives to secure and maintain accreditations such as ISO standards, ensuring the organization’s reputation for excellence. Reporting and Documentation – Oversee the creation and management of compliance documentation, including risk assessments, training records, and audit findings. – Prepare detailed reports on compliance status and improvements for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies. – Ensure accurate and timely submission of compliance data to authorities, including Scottish Water and other regulatory agencies. Qualifications – Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. – Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in compliance management within the water treatment or water hygiene industry. – In-depth knowledge of Scottish water quality regulations, health & safety standards, and Legionella control. – Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs. – Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. – Relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, WMSoc) are highly desirable. Key Competencies – Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. – Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams. – Proficiency in compliance management software and reporting tools. – Strategic thinker with a commitment to driving compliance excellence. Location – Based in Glasgow, with occasional travel to operational sites across Scotland and the UK.
