Overview
The Flavour Network are currently supporting a growing food manufacturing business in their search for an Engineering Manager to take full ownership of the site’s engineering function. This is a unique opportunity to step into a role where you will build systems, structure, and a team from the ground up. As the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a critical part in transforming engineering from a reactive function into a proactive, high-performing operation that supports production at scale. This role will suit a hands-on leader who enjoys solving complex problems, driving performance improvements, and building a culture of accountability and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities for the Engineering Manager
- Build, recruit, and lead the Engineering team, setting clear standards and direction
- Develop and implement a full preventative maintenance (PPM) and asset care programme
- Own and drive engineering KPIs, including downtime, MTTR, MTBF, and PPM adherence
- Lead both reactive and planned maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve line efficiency
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and optimisation of machinery and equipment
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety and food manufacturing standards
- Manage engineering budget, contractors, and supplier relationships
- Establish and maintain an organised workshop and effective spares system
- Work cross-functionally with Production, NPD, and Operations on trials and scale-up projects
- Embed a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Candidate Requirements for the Engineering Manager
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering background within manufacturing
- Proven experience in an engineering leadership or supervisory role
- Experience developing or managing preventative maintenance (PPM) systems
- Solid understanding of production equipment (conveyors, mixers, weighers, chillers, packaging lines)
- Exposure to automation and PLC-controlled systems
- Experience managing budgets, contractors, and external suppliers
- Strong knowledge of health & safety within a regulated environment (ideally food manufacturing)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead and influence teams
- Hands-on approach with strong problem-solving capability
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
