Engineering Manager - People & Procurement

b Overview /b p In this role you will own and evolve the engineering capabilities that support People and Procurement at the FT, leading a team to deliver secure, scalable enterprise SaaS platforms and data flows. You will translate business priorities into practical engineering plans, balance platform health with new capabilities, and partner with Architecture, Security and Product to shape the long-term technology roadmap. You’ll work in a warm, collaborative culture that values curiosity, growth and cross-functional partnership, delivering impact across workforce management and procurement domains. /p b Pay / Benefits /b ul li generous annual leave /li li medical cover /li li inclusive parental leave packages /li li subsidised gym memberships /li li hybrid working model /li /ul b Responsibilities /b ul li Own the engineering, operation and evolution of People Procurement platforms, providing clear technical direction across enterprise SaaS platforms, integrations and services /li li Lead, support and develop engineers, with coaching and career development /li li Establish clear technical ownership across platforms to reduce key-person dependencies /li li Ensure platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, maintainable and well-supported with focus on reliability and cost /li li Maintain visibility of platform health, debt, and dependencies, collaborating on material technical decisions /li li Translate business priorities into engineering plans with Product, balancing change, platform improvement and technical debt /li li Own planning and resource allocation, identifying dependencies, risks and trade-offs /li li Identify opportunities to simplify and modernise the technology estate while managing vendor roadmaps and lifecycle /li li Oversee integrations and data flows between People Procurement platforms and the wider FT tech estate /li li Own operational performance, observability, incident and change management, resilience and disaster recovery /li li Ensure security, privacy, data governance, compliance and technology standards are met /li li Manage technical relationships with vendors and partners while maintaining internal ownership /li li Build strong relationships with Product and stakeholders to translate priorities into engineering implications /li li Partner with Architecture, Security, and other Corporate Technology teams on cross-cutting decisions /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li Significant experience leading engineering teams for complex, business-critical technology /li li Strong experience with enterprise SaaS platforms and their ecosystems /li li Experience providing both people leadership and technical leadership /li li Understanding of enterprise platform engineering, including integrations, APIs, data flows and dependencies /li li Experience across lifecycle of technology from change to production operation and improvement /li li Knowledge of reliability, security, privacy, observability and lifecycle management /li li Ability to translate business priorities into engineering plans and balance delivery with platform health and investment /li li Experience making technical decisions involving enterprise SaaS platforms, integrations and services /li li Experience working with vendors or partners while maintaining internal ownership /li li Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders /li li Experience collaborating with senior engineers, architects, Product Managers and other engineering leaders /li /ul ul li leadership and people development /li li clear communication /li li stakeholder management /li li enterprise SaaS platform engineering /li li integrations and APIs /li li data flows and dependencies /li /ul
