The role

The Unhedged newsletter is looking for a new reporter in London as part of a global expansion.

Unhedged is a daily markets and finance letter that has more than 60,000 subscribers worldwide. It gives a wry, opinionated, and highly analytical read on the latest news of stocks, bonds -- and most every other market you can think of, from crypto to real estate. Unhedged also produces a twice-weekly podcast where the Unhedged team and guests from inside and outside the FT give an informal but incisive take on the finance world. The goal of both the letter and the podcast is to cut through the noise to get at the essence of the news of the day, and to provide sharp, differentiated views about it.

The role will involve reading deeply into financial news and research, conducting interviews, writing high-quality accessible content, and providing beautiful charts for the newsletter\'s sophisticated reader base. Idea generation, data gathering, writing, and production of powerful charts are equally important parts of the job. The role will include opportunities to appear on the podcast.

This position will report to Katie Martin, the longtime host of the Unhedged podcast who is now starting the new London end to the newsletter operation, which was formerly based only in New York.

Who we are looking for

Candidates must have a proven understanding of and curiosity about financial markets, and skills in sourcing and presenting data in accessible ways. You should be familiar with data systems like Bloomberg Terminal and LSEG Workspace. An educational or professional background in economics or finance is a plus, but not mandatory. Ability to think quantitatively is a must. A sense of humor and the confidence to make and defend controversial positions on complex issues are important as well.

Responsibilities and Benefits

We offer a range of benefits, including generous annual leave, medical cover, inclusive parental leave packages, subsidised gym memberships and opportunities to give back to the community.

What to do next

Please submit your application by October 16, 2025.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
