About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services.

Enforcement & Market Oversight (EMO) is responsible for the FCA’s responsibilities for market monitoring, delivery of the functions of the UK Listing Authority (UKLA) and the investigation and prosecution of misconduct using the whole spectrum of criminal, civil and administrative sanctions and remedies against firms and individuals.

The Market Oversight Directorate oversees conduct in UK primary and secondary markets through the listing, prospectus, and market abuse regimes, aiming to promote trusted, orderly, and efficient markets via its four departments: Listing, Primary Market Oversight, Secondary Market Oversight, and Market Oversight Data & Intelligence.

Sitting within the Market Oversight Directorate, the Secondary Market Oversight (SMO) Department addresses all aspects of market abuse in secondary markets through data analysis, detection, investigation, and supervision, following the FCA’s four Ps approach — prepare, prevent, protect, and pursue — to maintain clean and transparent markets.

  • Support the development and implementation of the FCA’s approach to the Market Abuse Regime for Cryptoassets (MARC) ahead of its introduction on 25 October 2027, working within the FICC Market Abuse team and across the SMO department

  • Assist in designing, developing and delivering departmental training requirements to build capability and readiness for MARC
  • Contribute to the identification, assessment and management of market abuse risks arising within cryptoasset markets
  • Review and analyse allegations of market abuse across FICC asset classes to support understanding of potential application and implications for cryptoassets
  • Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to embed regulatory expectations, operational readiness and effective supervisory practices under the new regime

Skills required

  • Minimum: Demonstrable knowledge of cryptoasset markets, market abuse typologies, and the regulatory frameworks governing them, including an understanding of the Market Abuse Regime for Cryptoassets (MARC) and Admissions & Disclosures (A&D) regime
  • Practical experience gained within a financial services firm, trading venue, financial services consultancy, or regulatory organisation, with exposure to financial markets and market abuse matters
  • Proven experience supporting the implementation of new or evolving regulatory requirements, including developing guidance, delivering training, and communicating regulatory expectations to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Essential: Knowledge of UK Market Abuse Regulation (UK MAR) and its application to financial markets and market conduct matters
