Analytics Engineer - Underwriting
Please note, this role is 5 Days a week in the office
Weβre looking for a passionate Analytics Engineer to join our Actuarial and Underwriting Analytics team. This team leverages technical expertise in actuarial modelling, statistical analysis, and risk management solutions to support a high-impact team of 90+ underwriters. The Actuarial team works seamlessly with Underwriting to help the company stay ahead in the ever-changing insurance market.
In this commercial role, you will own and develop a forward-thinking analytics suite to elevate the Actuarial and Underwriting teams and help answer Fidelisβ most difficult business challenges. You will work closely with the Data team as the company implements a new data architecture.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be a strategic partner to the Underwriting team: Helping to identify critical analytical problems and find innovative solutions with data.
- Bring fresh insight into a progressing space, identifying the key issue to solve for, and how to unearth the metrics that will inform key business decisions.
- Understand and take ownership of our business processes, and recommend improvements in data management, error identification, quality control, or process automation.
- Ensure best practice and process documents are created to support training across the team
- Collaborate with Actuaries, Underwriters, Data Engineers and Data Analysts to conduct analyses and apply statistics to answer specific day-to-day questions or support larger initiatives.
- Develop data-driven stories to answer some of the toughest questions in insurance through data visualization and the summarizing of insights in verbal and written form.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of insurance processes and KPIs e.g. Pricing, Reserving and Underwriting practices
- Experience in Insurance Accounting, or familiarity with London Market specialty business lines for Insurance coverages and data.
- Advanced degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field or relevant industry experience.
- Expert programming and data manipulation skills using SQL and Python
- Strong data visualization skills and experience with Power BI is necessary
- Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders both internal and externally across the Company.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive with minimal oversight and process. You connect the dots across business needs and independently drive projects forward.
- Experience building data modelling, building data pipelines and working with job scheduling systems is a bonus.
- Experience working with 3rd party APIs for data ingestion is a plus.
