Project Estimator

Base pay range

Salary: £45,000 – plus Personal Performance Based Commission.

Responsibilities

• Analyse tender enquiry drawings, fire strategy and specifications to determine scope of work.
• Quantify materials and labour needed for projects based upon the tender information.
• Prepare and submit quotations.
• Update quotations throughout the tender process as information or addendums are issued.
• Identify project risks – technically and commercially.
• Review contracts to ensure content is consistent with tender information and that scope of work is as quoted.
• Prepare schedules of rates and costs for applications for payment.
• Design checks to ensure designs meet agreed scope of works.
• Finalize budgets used for live projects.
• Liaise with team members at different stages of a project to ensure costs/budgets are met.
• Establish and maintain relationships with clients.
• Via CRM, maintain comprehensive records of estimates for client follow‑ups and reporting.
• Project handovers to design and project management.

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to integrate well into a team as well as work independently.
• Ability to collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and pricing information.
• Ability to work closely with surveyors, architects and engineers to understand the project requirements.
• Ability to negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Ability to negotiate with clients.
• Meticulous in analysing tender information to ensure that all aspects of a project are considered within costs and written quotations.
• Technical knowledge in smoke ventilation. Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Ability to identify alternative methods or materials to reduce costs while maintaining quality, standards and functionality.
• Proficient IT skills (particularly Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Exceptional organisational skills.
• Must be able to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
• Excellent client service focus.

Requirements

• GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above).
• Experienced estimator.
• Familiarity with estimating software.
• Established client relationships.
• Experience in smoke ventilation or fire alarm systems.
• Experience within the commercial sector – preferred but not essential.
