Job Description

Employee Type: Intern (Trainee) This program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates. The successful applicant will be support as a diesel / auto mechanic on scrapers, blades, dozers, haul trucks, miscellaneous small equipment and light vehicles. 3-month positions (May 2027 through August 2027) 8-month positions (May 2027 through December 2027)

Must also successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and the applicable Job Function Test (JFT). The role involves approximately 80% indoor work and 20% outdoor work. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, face shield, and respirator.

Duties

  • Perform safety inspections and corrections.
  • Perform mechanical work on heavy equipment and small diesel engines.
  • Remove and install engines and components.
  • Assemble and disassemble engines, brake adjustments, repair clutches and wheel bearings.
  • Perform general repairs on trucks, tractors and light vehicles.
  • Perform engine tune ups and field work.
  • Service, operate and test large equipment.
  • Clean the shop.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Enroll in an accredited diesel mechanic / automotive program and in good academic standing with the college or university.
  • Completed a portion of college in the associated field of study and intents on completing the degree.
  • Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work rotating shifts.
  • Steel-toed Shoes.

Compensation and Schedule

Starting Salary: $33.20 (Hourly)

Starting Date: May of 2027

End Date: August of 2027 or December of 2027

(tools and equipment), grip 40 lbs. (using tools), pinch 8 lbs. (small nuts, bolts or wire), hand coordination, bend and reach. Continually (2/3-3/3 of workday): Lift and carry 25 lbs. (tools and equipment), push and pull 25 lbs. (tools and equipment), grip 20 lbs. (using tools), pinch 4 lbs. (small nuts, bolts or wire), stand and walk (around the shop and while working on equipment).
