The Football Association (The FA) is seeking independent Panel Members with experience in safeguarding legislation and football to sit on or chair Safeguarding Review Panels and/or Safeguarding Appeal Boards.
Responsibilities
- Attend Safeguarding Review Panel or Safeguarding Appeal Board hearings, primarily by video conference unless an in-person session is approved.
- Prepare for hearings and draft reasoned judgments or assist in drafting them.
- Maintain an FA Panel Member calendar to indicate availability for panels and appeals.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
- Collect and manage any reasonably incurred expenses for relevant travel.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least seven years standing (King's Counsel level desirable).
- Significant safeguarding experience in family and/or criminal law.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, regulations and policy applicable to football/sport.
- Experience sitting on judicial or quasi‑judicial panels.
- Ability to assess evidence and submissions fairly, objectively and with sound judgement.
- Proficiency in drafting reasoned judgments.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
- High ethical standards, integrity, impartiality.
Time Commitment & Compensation
Panel members serve a fixed term of three years, with renewal subject to the FA’s business needs. Members receive an attendance fee for preparation and participation in hearings, plus reimbursement of reasonable expenses for travel to Wembley.
