Role Description

The role is to deliver speed coaching sessions from an athletics venue (ideally an athletics track), following The Extra Yard program manual. Full training and ongoing support are provided to help you set up, promote, and successfully run your sessions.

We’ll enable your area, support initial marketing, and help create a starter group of athletes. Once your sessions are established, the programme is handed over to you to manage, giving you the opportunity to develop your own coaching base and income stream.

The Extra Yard primarily works with athletes aged 17–21, though some older athletes also attend. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Running weekly speed coaching sessions
  • Engaging with athletes to support their development
  • Promoting your sessions on social media with our guidance and resources

This role is particularly suited to:

  • Existing athletes or students studying sports-related degrees
  • Individuals with a background in athletics or football (football experience is not essential, but many of our athletes are footballers aiming to gain that “extra yard of pace”)
  • Coaches who want to inspire athletes, build a community, and grow their own coaching business with the backing of a proven system

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Physical Education and Sports Training
  • Coaching and Sports Coaching experience/skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and inspire athletes
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Experience in a similar coaching role is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field preferred but not essential
