Hello, we’re Reach. Every day, our trusted news, stories and content connect with millions of people where they live - whether that’s on their social feed or at their neighbourhood newsstand; through their local community or their take on the hot topic of the day. We're home to more than 120 brands - from household names like the Mirror, Express, Daily Star and Daily Record, to local titles like MyLondon, BelfastLive, and the Manchester Evening News, and brands making a splash in the US like the Irish Star. It's our ability to understand people and the things that matter to them that makes us Britain and Ireland's largest commercial news publisher. We reach around 70% of the UK's online population, 10% of the US online population, and over 100 million social followers around the world, connecting with them on who they are, where they live and what they love.
As a modern media organisation, we're much more than just news. And it takes a wide range of people and skills to serve diverse audiences, customers and communities like we do. We know everyone has their own story to tell, so we’ve built an environment where every background is respected and every day is a day to explore. About this role: If you’re immersed in the news agenda and a social media video expert then this is the role for you. You’ll play a huge part in the Express’ newsroom social video coverage, ensuring legal and editorial standards are consistently met while delivering work in original, dynamic and platform native ways. You will utilize your creativity to implement ways to stop audiences from scrolling, and create truly engaging news content that is accessible, entertaining and relevant to the platforms people use every day. You will be a confident editorial voice who challenges and educates others on the best use of video, pitch exciting and original ideas daily in a fast-paced environment. This role will involve both leading from behind the camera, and presenting or filming content yourself where required. You will help to ensure video content is optimised to drive engagement and audience growth, using analytics tools, competitor analysis and platform trends to inform editorial and creative decisions. Hybrid role working 3 - 4 days per week from our Canary Wharf hub. The role will require weekend work and potentially flexible hours during the week, this will be discussed at interview stage.
What you need to succeed: An NCTJ or BJTC qualification, alongside a proven track record of working in a breaking news environment, is essential, as is a strong understanding and practical application of media law. You will be capable of shooting video on both phones and DSLR cameras, be comfortable presenting on camera and recording voiceovers, and be highly skilled in Premiere Pro or similar editing software. You will have advanced knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts and X, and have the ability to shape original content to meet relevant video KPIs, support editing longer-form videos into social formats, upload and distribute video content, and ensure all output adheres to editorial guidelines and legal and copyright standards. A strong understanding of UK media law, editorial tone, accuracy and the confidence to make sound publishing decisions under pressure is essential.
How we'll look after you: We take good care of our people - and that means more than just a pay packet. Whatever your role, you'll get a range of benefits, including:
- 25 days' holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as an extra day after you've been with us for three, five and 10 years.
- An extra day's paid leave each year to volunteer for a cause close to your community or your heart.
