We’re an ambitious, inclusive and friendly organisation that values integrity, collaboration and continuous improvement. The role
We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded National Account Manager (Protection) to grow and strengthen our relationships with key national accounts across the protection market. This is a high-profile, externally facing role where you’ll act as a brand ambassador for The Exeter — building strong partnerships, driving sustainable growth, and delivering great outcomes for advisers and customers. As National Account Manager, you’ll own and develop a portfolio of national accounts across all protection disciplines. Working closely with colleagues across Distribution, Marketing and the wider business, you’ll identify opportunities, increase our market presence, and deliver against agreed premium income targets. You’ll also play an important role in embedding Consumer Duty principles and ensuring high standards of distribution quality across your portfolio.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with a portfolio of national accounts across all protection propositions
- Deliver agreed annual premium income targets in line with business objectives and Distribution Quality Measures (DQM)
- Act as the primary point of contact for all opportunities across the allocated account portfolio
- Identify and develop growth opportunities across products, including viable cross‑selling opportunities
- Create and deliver tailored business development plans and contact strategies for each account
- Analyse account performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities, using CRM, DQM and market insight
- Work collaboratively with Sales Managers and internal stakeholders to maximise The Exeter’s visibility and positioning in the market
- Ensure strong governance across account relationships, including structured meetings, agendas, minutes and action tracking
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge, including relevant legislation and competitor propositions
- Provide regular competitor and market analysis, sharing insights and recommendations internally
- Ensure compliance with internal governance processes and FCA Individual Conduct Rules
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience working with Intermediaries, IFAs and/or Wealth Managers
- Strong knowledge of protection products
- A demonstrable track record of developing and growing new and existing accounts
- Experience in senior relationship and territory management roles
- Confident presenting to senior and occasionally challenging audiences
- Strong influencing, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Highly organised, self‑motivated and comfortable managing a national portfolio
- Ideally CII qualified (or working towards it)
- Confident with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and Power BI
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
About you
You’re commercially focused, self‑driven and collaborative, with a genuine passion for building long‑term relationships. You thrive in a target‑driven environment and enjoy representing The Exeter positively in the market.
What we offer
- Competitive salary
- Flexible working options
- Generous Pension scheme
- 27 days holiday allowance
- Holiday trading
- Your birthday day off
- Two paid volunteering days per annum
- Life insurance (four times salary)
