The Exchange is a community‑owned cultural organisation based in Erith, founded in 2017 and created to give the town’s Old Library a sustainable future and to support local people to “make and make things happen”. Our work spans craft, design and making, retail and e‑commerce, public programmes and courses, community engagement and volunteering, and an award‑winning garden focused on sustainability and learning. We use our heritage to inform what we do and how we do it. The Exchange is registered as a Charitable Community Benefit Society with the Financial Conduct Authority (RS008163) and has received support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Community Fund and Arts Council England, amongst others.
The Roles We’re recruiting for at least 6 Trustees to join The Exchange Board!
- Chair Designate – experienced leader with ability to cultivate relationships and provide oversight and governance across the organisation and board
- Board Secretary – experience of board practices, strong organisational skills, and keen attention to detail
- Board Treasurer – strong financial acumen, relevant qualifications in finance or accounting, compliance with the legal requirements of the role
- Trustees (x3) – the more the merrier
We’re especially keen to hear from people with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Charity Management – Legal, HR, Operations, Facilities, and helping with establishing strong governance practices.
- Consumer Marketing and Communications – experience of generating footfall, driving purpose‑led e‑commerce sales, or building awareness of retail and community spaces through PR and partnerships.
- Fundraising – experience of raising funds from donors, trusts, foundations, recurring giving, legacy gifts, advocacy while monitoring and reporting meaningful impact.
