Excelsior, Lowestoft's iconic 105‑year‑old sailing trawler, offers life‑changing experiences on a heritage vessel at sea. She is looking for an experienced person with skills in marketing and PR to help get her message out to schools, potential donors and volunteers.
Your input will help to connect the Trust to a wider circle of potential service users, funding partners and the public. With your help we will ensure our website and other resources truly reflect the Trust's vision and impact.
Qualifications
This position would suit someone with experience in marketing, PR and/or sales roles who has an interest in the sea and heritage marine issues and can bring a professional outlook to the Trust's promotional activities in media (traditional and social), branding, events and marketing campaigns.
Work Arrangement
Work is part time and remote; however the Trust's activity is centred around the Excelsior Yard, Lowestoft and the ideal volunteer would live close enough to make occasional visits.
Beyond its status as one of the nation's most historic vessels, Excelsior has been a sail training vessel for over 40 years. The number of such vessels in the UK is dwindling as costs increase and schools pare back on budgets. Training berths on Excelsior are heavily subsidised through a continuous appeal for sponsors, individual and corporate partners. The Trust has existing systems for marketing, PR and sales but additional resource is needed at management level to improve, expand and optimise the promotion of Excelsior's story. Longer term the Trust intends to strengthen its board and there may be opportunities to become a trustee.
What will you be doing?
Excelsior has many great stories to tell; from her early days trawling the Dogger Bank under sail through adventures in wartime Norway to her restoration and long service as a sail training vessel. More than ever, Excelsior needs to raise her profile to the outside world - to schools and Duke of Edinburgh participants to fill her berths, to potential and existing donors and to volunteers. The Excelsior Trust seeks an enthusiastic marketing / PR person to manage outreach work for Excelsior. Working closely with other volunteers and trustees you will contribute to branding, website, social and traditional media and events to promote Excelsior herself, traditional skills training at the Excelsior yard in Lowestoft plus an exciting new digital heritage initiative.
