About the Job
This is a genuine chance to take the lead on employment law in Manchester City Centre, with the autonomy and influence to help shape how the service is delivered locally rather than simply picking up an existing caseload. In this Employment Lawyer job you will work within a specialist employment, HR and health & safety arm of the firm, built to combine legal expertise with a more proactive, tech-enabled way of working. Rather than firefighting reactive queries, you will help shape strategy, work alongside HR, health & safety and legal specialists in a genuinely collaborative team, and give clients real-time access to advice, insights and templates through the firm’s own app-based platform. You will handle a varied caseload of both contentious and non-contentious matters, supporting clients across sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising clients on employment law issues (disciplinary, grievances, performance management, capability)
- Acting on tribunal claims: drafting responses, case strategy, bundles, representation
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, policies and handbooks
- Advising on restructuring, redundancies, TUPE and business transfers
- Supporting corporate workstreams, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions
- Delivering training, webinars and client workshops
- Contributing to business development and client relationship building
You will operate with a good degree of autonomy over your own caseload, reporting into the senior leadership of the employment law team.
About You
You’ll be an experienced Employment Solicitor who is currently managing a varied caseload of employment matters. Your skills and background should include:

- Experience in tribunal work or litigation (or a keen interest in building this)
- Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Commercial awareness and a client-first approach
- Confidence in business development, networking or client relationship work
Ideally you will have at least 5 years PQE.

- Generous holiday allowance: 28 days plus bank holidays
- 4% pension contributions
- Life assurance (2 x salary)
- Hybrid and flexible working arrangements to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance
- Voluntary healthcare cash plan to support your health needs
- Discounts on legal services
- Regular social and community activities, fostering team connection and local engagement
- Ongoing professional development with clear opportunities to grow your career
