Eventus Legal are seeking a Legal Secretary to join an established Wills, Trusts and Probate team in Darlington, County Durham. This is a full-time, permanent job offering a competitive salary of up to Β£25,000, flexible hours and hybrid working, together with 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, an additional day off for your birthday and paid Christmas closure without using annual leave. The position will suit someone with at least 12 months' legal experience who enjoys client contact and wants to build long-term expertise in a professional legal support position.

Role Responsibilities

The Legal Secretary will provide day-to-day administrative and secretarial support within the Wills, Trusts and Probate team, working as part of a centralised support function and helping to maintain a high standard of service for clients. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Audio typing and producing accurate legal correspondence and documents
  • Using the firm's Proclaim case management system to maintain and update matters
  • Opening, updating and closing files and ensuring records are kept accurate
  • Managing diaries, appointments and meeting arrangements
  • Preparing legal forms, documents and routine correspondence
  • Liaising directly with clients, other professionals and internal colleagues, providing a professional and helpful service
  • Processing payments, managing incoming and outgoing post and providing general administrative support as required

Person Specification

This Legal Secretary job is suited to someone who understands the standards expected within a legal environment and, importantly, is confident dealing directly with clients. Wills, Trusts and Probate experience would be beneficial but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • At least 12 months' experience working within a legal environment
  • Strong client-facing experience and a clear commitment to delivering excellent client care
  • Legal secretarial, legal assistant or legal administrative experience
  • Strong organisation, administrative and IT skills, including confidence using case management systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when preparing documents and updating files
  • Clear, professional communication skills when dealing with clients, colleagues and third parties
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider support team and handling confidential information professionally
  • A genuine interest in a long-term legal support position, rather than seeking an immediate route into fee earning, a training contract or professional qualification
