Eventus Legal is seeking an experienced Probate Solicitor to join a highly regarded Private Client department at a well-established law firm based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity to manage a varied caseload of high-value, high-net-worth and complex estate administration matters while working within a supportive and collaborative team renowned for delivering exceptional client service. This is a full-time, permanent basis job, although part-time applications will also be considered, with hybrid and flexible working available alongside a competitive salary up to £55,000 (DOE), 24 days annual leave plus your birthday and Christmas off, a bonus scheme, group pension scheme and life insurance (3 x your salary).
Job Responsibilities
- Manage a broad range of probate and estate administration matters from instruction through to completion.
- Manage all aspects of estate administration from initial instruction through to final distribution.
- Handle complex and high-net-worth estates involving business interests, agricultural assets, trusts, investment portfolios and overseas assets.
- Prepare applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration.
- Advise executors, trustees and beneficiaries on estate administration and succession matters.
- Prepare inheritance tax returns and deal with HMRC enquiries.
- Identify inheritance tax planning opportunities during estate administration.
- Prepare estate accounts and arrange distributions.
- Liaise with accountants, financial advisers, wealth managers, valuers and other professional advisers.
- Manage matters involving contested estates, Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 claims and other complex probate issues where appropriate.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth clients and professional referrers.
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the Private Client department.
Person Specification
- Applications are welcomed from experienced Probate Specialists, Solicitors, Chartered Legal Executives or STEP-qualified professionals with significant estate administration experience.
- Minimum of 4 years PQE in a similar role.
- Qualification as a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX), STEP-qualified practitioner or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience managing probate and estate administration matters.
- Proven experience handling high-value, high-net-worth and complex estates.
- Strong technical knowledge of inheritance tax, trusts and estate administration.
- A thorough understanding of probate law.
- Excellent communication and first class client relationship skills.
- The ability to deal with sensitive matters with professionalism, empathy and discretion.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy caseload independently.
- Experience advising on trusts, succession planning and wider Private Client matters.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues.
