Eventus Finance are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join an established law firm based in Birmingham. This is a full-time, permanent, office-based job in Birmingham, paying up to £40,000 for the right candidate. Full training is provided where required, including on the SRA Accounts Rules, so this Bookkeeper job is a route into specialist legal finance for someone who has not worked in a law firm before. It will suit a bookkeeper who wants a stable, long-term position where their expertise is relied upon, with real scope to progress.

About the Role

The incoming Bookkeeper will be the person the firm relies on for its numbers. This is not a high-volume processing job. It calls for sound judgement, a methodical approach, and someone comfortable owning a set of books rather than working through someone else's checklist. Alongside senior colleagues, the successful candidate will contribute directly to the strength and efficiency of the finance function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the firm's financial records
  • Supporting compliance with SRA Accounts Rules, with training provided
  • Supporting month-end processes and financial reporting
  • Preparing financial statements and recording journal entries
  • Maintaining accurate purchase and sales ledgers
  • Carrying out bank reconciliations and financial postings
  • Processing invoices and payments precisely
  • Managing day-to-day records and reporting through Xero

About You

This Bookkeeper job suits a formally qualified professional with a strong track record in a similar position. Confidence working within a structured, regulated setting matters more than legal sector experience, which the firm will train. Accuracy, accountability and consistency are what the employer values most.

You should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A minimum of five years' relevant experience in a similar bookkeeping job
  • A formal bookkeeping or accountancy qualification such as AAT, ICB or equivalent
  • Proven ability across financial statements preparation, journal entries and general finance tasks
  • A highly organised and disciplined approach to a full workload
  • Strong familiarity with accounting systems, with Xero experience preferred
  • Accuracy and attention to detail across every posting and reconciliation
  • The ability to meet deadlines and handle sensitive financial data responsibly
  • A professional and reliable approach, with the discretion a regulated environment demands

Benefits and Rewards

The employer is offering a competitive salary reflective of experience, capability and professional background, alongside the following:

  • Full training where required, including on the SRA Accounts Rules
  • The chance to build specialist expertise in legal finance and regulatory compliance
  • A structured and professional working environment
  • A job where quality, ownership and professionalism are valued over volume
  • Development and progression within a specialist regulated sector
  • Salary of up to £40,000
  • Flexible working hours between 9.30am and 6pm

About the Firm

My client is a well-established UK law firm specialising in criminal defence and road traffic law, authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The team brings a broad range of legal expertise to a specialist area of practice, and the business is growing. This Bookkeeper job supports that growth, and it sits close to senior colleagues who want someone whose expertise they can rely on rather than a processor working through a queue. For anyone wanting to build specialist expertise in legal finance and regulatory compliance, this is a place to do it.

We are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil the role. As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances.
