Eventus Legal are seeking a Family Legal Secretary to join a small, established law firm in Wombwell, South Yorkshire.

This is a permanent job position available on a full-time or part-time basis, with a salary of up to £26,000 depending on experience.

The position is fully office-based, with no homeworking, although some flexibility around working hours may be available for the right person.

Role Responsibilities

As a Family Legal Secretary, you will provide day-to-day legal and administrative support within the family team, while also assisting the care team when required.

Your work will include client contact, document preparation and the effective use of legal aid and court systems.

  • Preparing and compiling court bundles accurately and efficiently
  • Using the Legal Aid Agency's CCMS portal to upload and download information and documents
  • Answering telephone calls and dealing professionally with clients, including taking initial details where a fee earner is unavailable
  • Managing emails, time recording and other day-to-day administrative tasks on the firm's systems
  • Supporting family fee earners and providing assistance to the care team as and when required
  • Working with costs-related processes where appropriate, including allocating costs, payments on account and processing bills returned by the costs draftsman, with training available where needed
  • Using Case Lines and relevant court portals as part of the day-to-day administration of matters

Person Specification

The successful Family Legal Secretary will be an experienced legal support professional who can work confidently in a busy, small-office environment and who is comfortable dealing with sensitive areas of family and care work.

  • At least two years' experience working as a Legal Secretary or in a comparable legal support position
  • Previous experience of the legal aid system and CCMS
  • Proven experience of preparing and compiling legal bundles
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using electronic case management, email and court systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and a reliable, organised approach to work
  • The ability to communicate professionally and sensitively with clients who may be dealing with difficult personal circumstances
  • A collaborative, practical approach and willingness to support colleagues across a small team
  • Family law experience would be advantageous, although experienced Legal Secretaries from other practice areas will be considered where they have strong bundle preparation and legal aid experience
  • Audio typing experience would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Experience of legal aid costs processes, including payments on account and processing returned bills, would be advantageous but can be taught.
