Eventus Legal are seeking a Conveyancing Assistant to join a specialist residential property team in Caversham, Berkshire. This permanent job position offers a salary of £25,000 to £30,000, 20 working days of annual leave plus bank holidays, a company pension and a discretionary bonus, alongside support, relevant training and opportunities to progress within the firm.

The Conveyancing Assistant will support a busy domestic conveyancing caseload and have direct contact with clients, estate agents and other solicitors throughout transactions.

Role Responsibilities

You will assist with the management of a busy residential conveyancing caseload covering freehold, leasehold, new-build, registered and unregistered property matters. The daily duties within this job will include:

  • Providing initial quotations and setting up new conveyancing files
  • Liaising with clients, estate agents, solicitors and other third parties by telephone, email and in person
  • Preparing and issuing draft contract papers on sale transactions
  • Answering enquiries on sales and raising enquiries on purchases
  • Submitting property searches and progressing purchase matters
  • Attending clients in the office for signing
  • Reporting to clients on freehold and leasehold titles
  • Handling exchange of contracts and the associated transaction paperwork
  • Preparing completion paperwork
  • Managing post-completion leasehold work, including notices
  • Dealing with Land Registry applications and requisitions, together with Stamp Duty Land Tax submissions

Person Specification

This position will suit someone who is confident supporting residential conveyancing transactions and communicating directly with clients and third parties. You should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Practical knowledge of the residential conveyancing process across freehold and leasehold matters
  • Confidence handling the key stages of sale and purchase transactions, including enquiries, searches, contract paperwork, exchange, completion and post-completion work
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication with clients, estate agents and solicitors
  • Confidence attending clients in the office for signing and dealing with transaction documentation
  • Knowledge of Land Registry applications and requisitions, and Stamp Duty Land Tax submissions
  • The ability to organise a busy workload accurately while maintaining effective communication throughout a transaction
