Eventus Legal are seeking a Conveyancing Assistant for a law firm in Birkenhead, Wirral. This full-time, permanent job pays £24,479 to £25,479, depending on experience, with working hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You will support fee earners across a varied residential conveyancing caseload from initial instruction through to completion and post-completion. Hybrid working considered following probation reviews. You will also benefit from 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays and time off for Christmas shutdown, Medicash, Perkbox and free parking.Role Responsibilities
Working closely with fee earners and paralegals, you will provide practical support across the residential conveyancing process and help ensure transactions progress efficiently and accurately. Key responsibilities will include:
- Opening new matters, taking initial instructions and completing client identification checks, searches and other file-opening requirements.
- Supporting residential property transactions from initial instruction through to completion and post-completion.
- Drafting routine reports and correspondence from precedents and responding to enquiries from clients, lenders, agents and other third parties.
- Assisting with a varied caseload including sales, purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity and equity release across freehold and leasehold property.
- Applying for mortgage funds, preparing completion statements and supporting fee earners through exchange and completion.
- Assisting with post-completion requirements including SDLT returns, Land Registry applications, HMRC requirements and the return of deeds or documents to lenders where required.
- Managing incoming post, liaising with agents, updating the case management system, closing completed files and providing wider administrative support to the conveyancing team when needed.
Person Specification
This Conveyancing Assistant job would suit someone who already has a sound understanding of residential conveyancing procedures and is confident producing accurate work under fee earner supervision. You should also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Practical knowledge of residential conveyancing processes and procedures, ideally gained through experience supporting a range of conveyancing transactions.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work proactively.
- A professional, client-focused approach with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and case management systems, together with accurate keyboard and data-entry skills.
- Good numeracy and written English, with five GCSEs or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.
- A flexible and dependable approach, with the ability to work independently when required while contributing positively to the wider team.
- Experience using Proclaim or a similar case management system would be advantageous.
- Two or more A levels or equivalent would also be desirable.
