The Executive Director, Global Communications is responsible for defining and driving the global communications strategy for Jo Malone London, ensuring alignment with the broader fragrance communications vision.
This role leads the global communications organisation for the brand, directly managing two Directors and overseeing a broader team across PR, influencer, corporate affairs, and content disciplines.
As the senior communications leader for Jo Malone London, the Executive Director sets direction, ensures excellence in execution, and acts as a trusted advisor to global leadership—driving communications that strengthen brand equity, enhance cultural relevance, and support commercial priorities across all markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Communications Strategy & Brand Leadership
- Define and lead Jo Malone London’s global communications strategy, aligned to fragrance category priorities and overarching business objectives
- Translate category-level direction into a distinctive, differentiated brand voice and narrative
- Act as guardian of brand equity, tone, and storytelling across all touchpoints
- Identify strategic opportunities to elevate brand awareness, desirability, and cultural relevance globally
- Lead annual and long-term communications planning, ensuring alignment across global and regional teams
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on communications risks, opportunities, and positioning
- Global Communications & Campaign Delivery
- Set direction and oversee the development and execution of innovative global PR, influencer, and communications campaigns
- Ensure integrated, multi-channel storytelling across earned, owned, social, and partnership channels
- Lead global launch strategies to drive awareness, engagement, and EMV growth
- Establish frameworks and oversee the development of scalable global toolkits and activation guidelines
- Drive innovation in communications, identifying new channels, formats, and brand-building opportunities
- Ensure consistent, high-quality execution across all markets through strong governance and oversight
- Media, Influencer & Partnerships
- Define and lead the Jo Malone London approach to ambassadors, KOLs, and influencer engagement
- Oversee execution of global talent strategies, ensuring alignment with brand positioning
- Build and maintain senior relationships with key media, industry leaders, and cultural partners
- Identify, secure, and oversee strategic partnerships and collaborations that enhance brand equity
- Ensure global consistency while enabling local market relevance and flexibility
- Crisis Communications & Corporate Affairs
- Act as the global lead for brand crisis communications across all channels and touchpoints
- Partner closely with ELC corporate affairs, legal, and regional teams to protect brand reputation
- Establish and oversee robust risk assessment processes across campaigns, partnerships, and messaging
- Lead the development of proactive and reactive crisis communications strategies and frameworks
- Serve as the senior escalation point for critical issues
- Content & Storytelling
- Set the strategic direction for brand storytelling in partnership with creative and marketing teams
- Ensure communications amplify brand pillars through compelling, emotionally engaging narratives
- Guide content development to ensure alignment with communications strategy and brand voice
- Drive measurement, insights, and analytics to continuously optimise performance and impact
- Champion innovation in storytelling formats and content partnerships
- Internal Communications & Employee Engagement
- Define and lead internal communications strategy to drive alignment, engagement, and culture
- Oversee leadership communications, organisational messaging, and employee engagement initiatives
- Partner with HR and leadership teams to support organisational change and key business milestones
- Ensure consistent messaging and strong employee connection to brand values and strategy
- Team Leadership & Organizational Impact
- Lead and inspire a global communications organisation, comprising two Director-level reports and their extended teams (Managers and Coordinator), ensuring clarity of roles, priorities, and accountability
- Set the vision, operating model, and ways of working for the Jo Malone London global communications function
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to Directors, empowering them while ensuring consistency and excellence across all areas
- Build a high-performing, collaborative team culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Drive talent development, succession planning, and capability building across the organisation
- Establish clear performance metrics and ensure rigorous delivery against brand and business objectives
- Act as the senior decision-maker and escalation point for the function
