The Opportunity:
As a team, we are responsible for the EO scene generation capability in MBDA; this delivers modelling and simulation of the world observed by an EO sensor, accelerated to support real-time integration and test of missile hardware, and high volume simulation of weapon systems, missiles and sub-systems. This is an essential part of MBDA's complex weapon programmes, allowing us to game any mission on the ground with or without real hardware, and work with our Customers and Suppliers towards the next generation EO and multi-sensor missile seekers and weapon system sensors.
If you are the successful applicant, we will offer you the exciting challenge of developing real-world simulations and modelling tools that are a critical part of MBDA's product development. Our team is a small, multi-disciplinary team that support a range of scene generation activities, from synthetic modelling of real world objects and the Earth's surface, through to hardware testing and validation via experimentation and field trials.
We use a variety of different software development and modelling tools, and we will support you with hands-on training to get you up to speed as quickly as possible. We are always looking to broaden and evolve our toolset to continue to deliver an industry-leading capability ready for future programme needs; joining the team now offers the chance to deliver current programmes and shape the future of the team and the company.
What We're Looking For From You:
- Someone enthusiastic about software engineering and the development of physical models of the real world and how an EO Sensor perceives it.
- Technical Skills:
- Skills in Windows and Linux native software (C/C++), dynamic languages like python, GPU-acceleration and 3D graphics (Open GL, GLSL, CUDA, Vulkan)
- A strong software background including software architecture design, concurrency, synchronisation, and database design
- An appreciation of or the desire to learn the physics of the propagation of EM radiation, coherent phenomena, and thermal analysis; and the supporting tools.
- An affinity with lean/agile methods and software development tools; version control, task management, continuous integration, etc.
- The ability to be adaptable to create different features and effects, as well as being creative to work around a problem, finding innovative solutions to keep us on track.
- Demonstrated commitment and integrity in delivering on time – so experience in, or a good appreciation of task package management is also highly desirable.
- Work across different projects and departments, and value strong team spirit, and communication skills.
