âš¡ Helping Renewable Energy Businesses Scale Through Talent
I’m supporting an industry leading renewable energy developer as they look to bring an experienced Grid Connections Manager into their team. This is a great opportunity to join a business at the forefront of UK solar farm and utility scale energy development, working on some of the most exciting projects in the sector.
The Opportunity
My client is growing quickly and continues to secure major solar and battery storage projects across the UK. They’re looking for someone who can take ownership of grid connection strategy from early feasibility right through to energisation. You’ll work closely with internal project teams and external stakeholders, DNOs, ICPs and IDNOs to secure timely, cost effective, and compliant connections that keep projects moving.
What you’ll be doing
Applications and agreements
- Leading G99, G100, Statement of Works, and all associated grid applications.
- Negotiating bilateral agreements, securities, and Joint Operating Agreements.
Technical and commercial input
- Assessing reinforcement requirements and understanding their technical and commercial impacts.
- Identifying optimisation options and challenging cost assumptions within grid offers.
- Ensuring full compliance with the latest NESO processes, including Gate 2.
- Managing relationships with DNOs, TOs, ICPs/IDNOs, National Grid ESO, Ofgem, EPC partners, designers and legal teams.
- Coordinating regular progress meetings and maintaining accurate project records.
- Overseeing surveys, route assessments, metering, MPANs, and import/export arrangements.
- Ensuring all milestones align with the conditions of the grid offer.
- Supporting any LV and telecoms requirements.
Risk and innovation
- Identifying risks around capacity, curtailment, and reinforcement delays.
- Keeping ahead of upcoming code changes and new opportunities, including flexibility services, dynamic connections, and storage integration.
What they’re looking for
- Proven experience managing grid connections in the UK, on either distribution or transmission networks.
- Strong understanding of power systems, grid code processes, and connection standards.
- Good commercial awareness around reinforcement costs and flexibility services.
- Experience within solar, battery storage, or wider renewables (preferred).
- Confident communicator who can lead negotiations and manage multiple stakeholders.
- Organised, proactive, and comfortable managing several complex projects at once.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or similar.
- Competent with MS Office; AutoCAD experience helpful.
- Familiar with project management tools.
- Full UK driving licence.
What my client offers
- A collaborative, forward-thinking culture where renewable energy innovation thrives.
- Hybrid working up to three days a week from home.
- Monthly social activities and regular team events.
- Enhanced family-friendly policies.
- Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 support).
- Funded professional membership each year.
- 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with up to 5 days carryover.
- Long-service recognition.
- Life insurance and a competitive pension.
