The Employability Trust is a Peterlee-based charity focused on supporting people not in education, employment, or training (NEET) across the North East into sustainable work. In 13 years we have helped 480 people in East Durham achieve the experience necessary to find work.

The Manufacturing Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at The Employability Trust’s factory in Peterlee. We need a motivated individual to help our groundbreaking charity. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for Manufacturing and Logistics Staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning and control
    • Effectively & efficiently manage the manufacturing demand, maximising yield and productivity.
    • Ensure that shortages are minimised and productivity optimised.
    • Maintain control of manpower budget with specific reference to overhead/ overtime costs in accordance with production targets and agreed budgets.
    • Evaluation of operational performance through the analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with associated action plans and countermeasures.
    • Utilise adequate KPIs to manage the objectives and provide monthly reporting on time.
    • Develop staff to be self-motivated towards achieving set targets/objectives.
    • Continuous interaction with all relevant departments to ensure best practices are shared and applied throughout the operations area.
  • Operational
    • Achieve manufacturing targets within agreed budget and to agreed standards.
    • Monitor and develop adherence to the plan and introducing improvement actions and modern manufacturing techniques.
    • Drive an improvement culture of 'right first time' to ensure failure avoidance or re-occurrence through motivation and high standards of technical application.
    • Support customer satisfaction through capable production processes, effective problem solving and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
    • Drive the continuous improvement process to lead the plant towards operational excellence.
    • Provide input to the strategic direction of the manufacturing in terms of growth, performance etc.
    • Provide support to all reports to ensure they are given measurable objectives and necessary resources to achieve them.
  • Communication
    • Hold regular review/objective setting meetings held with direct reports.
    • Promote & encourage clear communication.
    • Develop and promote close working relationships with other areas of the business.
  • Health and Safety
    • To input into company strategy.
    • Work with company HSE representative to proactively ensure risk assessment completed and actions driven for improvement.
    • Support the introduction of any HSE change with the business.
    • Keep up to date with HSE legislation that affect production areas and make changes where required.
    • Have input into the bi-annual HSE meetings.
  • People
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in all staff.
    • Continuously develop the manufacturing management team selecting the correct improvement tools/courses.
    • Produce and maintain the competency management matrix for manufacturing management.
    • Work with HR Manager to develop and promote best practice in respect of recruitment and people management.
    • Manage departmental activities such as recruitment, objective setting, performance management, coaching, training and development.
    • Successfully implement a knowledge capture/skills transfer programme.
    • Carry out any other duties not listed above as may reasonably be expected.
