At The Elms Academy, we live by our school motto to ‘be exceptional’. To achieve this, we need the best staff to bring out the best in every single student. For many of our children, this means equipping them with the knowledge, ambition, and skill to attend university and go on to have a meaningful career. We have a relentless focus on high standards, whether this is on the learning in classrooms, our students’ interactions around the Academy, or in raising their aspirations. We don’t overcomplicate things: teachers teach, and students learn. Anything that takes away from this core focus must come second. We believe exceptional learning is about determining the simple things that work, doing them well, and doing them all the time.

About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring and strategic Careers Lead to design, deliver and evaluate a high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme for students aged 11–18. This is a key role within the academy, focused on embedding a strong careers culture and ensuring all students develop the knowledge, skills and experiences required to progress confidently into further education, higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Working closely with senior leaders and governors, you will lead the Careers and Futures strategy, oversee a progressive CEIAG curriculum across Years 7–13, and deliver high‑quality guidance at key transition points, including Personal Guidance interviews.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong partnership working with employers, universities and training providers, helping to create meaningful opportunities that raise aspirations and support progression.

About You

You will be committed to ensuring equitable access to high‑quality careers provision for all students, with a clear focus on inclusion, aspiration and positive outcomes. You will bring experience of delivering CEIAG to young people aged 11–18, alongside a strong understanding of progression pathways, safeguarding and student needs. A degree‑level qualification and a Level 6 Careers Guidance qualification (or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards this, are essential, together with a commitment to ongoing professional development. You will be highly organised, proactive and student‑centred, with strong communication, partnership‑building and project management skills. Confidence in using data to inform practice and drive continuous improvement is essential, including maintaining effective oversight of UniFrog and other careers systems. Knowledge of national frameworks such as the Gatsby Benchmarks and experience of working across a whole‑school setting or leading careers provision would be advantageous, as would the ability to support staff development and contribute strategically to the wider life of the academy.
