Power Electronics Design Engineer in Clevedon, England, United Kingdom. Salary: £45,000 - £55,000.
Overview: Working closely with all departments and managers to support the delivery of business success. As a member of the Design Team, learn and gain electronics and software knowledge to support the application of new product designs and improvement of existing products.
Responsibilities and Duties within the Design Department:
- Design, development and support of power and control circuits, both digital and analog.
- New product implementation as part of the Design Team.
- Research electronics and power circuits.
- Understand product requirements and implement them in the product and application, whilst considering commercial and business requirements.
- Follow departmental processes relating to management of designs and also the company-wide new product development processes.
- Work through product life cycle, from schematic, layout, proof of concept, supply chain, tests, approvals to product delivery.
- Provide expertise on the customer application to guide the design process.
- Carry out detailed electronic circuit design and layout, including simulation and design verification testing of the new design.
- Component selection and management, considering obsolescence, availability and cost.
- Preparation of manufacturing packs for all PCB designs.
- Work with production, test and service to ensure that DFx engineering approach is followed, including manufacturing, test, service and financial aspects.
- Ensure product test strategy is implemented and followed throughout design.
- Document design work and prepare reports, ensuring design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with company procedures.
- Write specifications and technical reports.
- Support of existing products, understanding life cycle and MTBF, managing hardware/firmware issues whilst working closely with the customer (internal or external).
- Oversee development of firmware and software for the existing and next generation of charge controls, actively applying newer technologies and frameworks to future-proof solutions and internal capability.
- Use logic and mathematical modeling approach for product simulation.
- Ensure all relevant safety regulations are met in design activities/areas, including actively reporting near misses.
- Provide technical training on new products to all key departments, e.g. Service, System Test, Production, Engineering and Sales.
Relevant Quality Standards: ISO9001, ISO14001 and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Other appropriate Legal, Quality, H&S, Environmental, Customer standards/requirements (e.g. WEEE, EMC, RoHS, etc.)
Qualifications / Knowledge:
- Degree in Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, Embedded Systems or equivalent.
- Experienced in hardware system design.
- Schematic and PCB layout (OrCad).
- Use of electrical test equipment such as PSUs, Load banks, DMM/DVM, oscilloscope/analysers, signal/function generators.
- Creative and methodical approach to design and test.
- Analytical approach to fault finding.
- Use of software IDEs, development boards and emulators to assist with embedded programming an advantage.
- Microsoft Office products including Outlook, OneNote, Word, Excel and Teams/SharePoint.
- Agile management, including JIRA, would be an advantage.
