About the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission is the UK's independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.

As we continue to deliver our five-year Corporate Plan, the Commission is building on a period of growth and change, expanding our workforce and modernising how we deliver our services to better support the needs of a changing democracy. As our organisation develops and adapts to meet future challenges, this post will play a vital part in supporting that progress and helping ensure we remain responsive to the democratic needs of voters, campaigners, parties and electoral administrators across the UK.

About the role

The Quality & Process Improvement Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Commission's continuous improvement journey. Working within the Corporate Services Directorate, you will partner with teams across the organisation to understand how work is delivered, identify opportunities for improvement, and help implement practical solutions that enhance quality, efficiency and customer experience.

You'll use process improvement methodologies, data analysis and stakeholder engagement skills to help teams review and optimise their processes. From facilitating process mapping workshops to supporting business improvement projects, you'll help ensure that decisions are informed by evidence and focused on delivering positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading process improvement initiatives to enhance organisational efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery.
  • Facilitating process mapping workshops and supporting teams to identify and implement improvements.
  • Providing business analysis expertise to support organisational projects and transformation activities.
  • Using data and insight to identify trends, evaluate performance and inform decision-making.
  • Engaging and influencing stakeholders to support continuous improvement and organisational change.
  • Developing reporting and management information to measure outcomes and support improvement activities.
  • Promoting continuous improvement best practice across the Commission.

About the team

The Process Improvement and Quality Assurance team supports the Commission in developing efficient, effective and customer-focused ways of working. The team works collaboratively with colleagues across all directorates to improve processes, strengthen quality assurance arrangements and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

This is a supportive and forward-looking team that combines analytical thinking, collaboration and practical problem-solving. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation, gaining valuable exposure to different business areas while contributing to projects that make a tangible difference.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced improvement professional who enjoys analysing complex problems, influencing stakeholders and delivering meaningful organisational change.

You will be comfortable working independently, engaging with stakeholders at all levels and using evidence-based recommendations to drive improvements. You'll bring strong analytical capability, a collaborative approach and the confidence to challenge existing ways of working constructively.

You will have:

  • Experience leading cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience building or maintaining quality management systems.
  • Experience using data and insight to inform recommendations and influence decision‑making.
  • Experience facilitating process mapping workshops and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Experience influencing and engaging stakeholders across a range of business functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes independently.
  • Experience using process mapping methodologies and tools such as BPMN and Microsoft Visio.

A degree or equivalent professional experience is essential. A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt qualification, or equivalent continuous improvement qualification, would be advantageous.

Why work for us?

This is a unique opportunity to join a newly established Process Improvement and Quality Assurance team at an exciting stage of its development. You'll play an important role in helping to establish and embed continuous improvement practices across the Commission, supporting colleagues to deliver more efficient, effective, and consistent ways of working.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of teams and projects, building strong stakeholder relationships and helping to shape how the team develops and delivers its services in the future. It's an excellent role for someone who enjoys collaborating with others, solving problems and making a visible impact within a growing function.

The Office:

Our offices provide welcoming, collaborative spaces where colleagues can connect, share ideas and work together across teams. Whether based in London, Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, you will be part of a supportive working environment that balances the benefits of in-person collaboration with the flexibility of hybrid working.

The Benefits:

We offer a strong total reward package, including:

  • Flexi-time scheme, allowing flexible hours with the option to accrue and take flexi leave
  • 28 rising to 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Performance-related pay

The Electoral Commission is proud to be a Level 2 Disability Confident Employer. As part of this commitment, we aim to prioritise interviews for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria listed in the job description.

There may, however, be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria. If you have a disability and would like to be considered under this commitment, please indicate this when you apply. We also welcome requests for reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process or within the workplace.
