The Education Specialists are recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Nurture Teacher to work in a specialist provision in Stockport. The school provides an excellent learning and supportive environment for students aged 13 - 18 with Autism (ASD). Our school provides education for up to 40 students. Although they are a small school that teaches both the national and alternative curriculum, they supplement this with nurture principles and relational practice to build trust, emotional development and resilience.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Nurture Teacher to join our team. This role is pivotal in providing targeted support to students who may struggle with the traditional classroom setting. You will create a safe, structured, and engaging environment where students can develop key social, emotional, and academic skills at their own pace. The Nurture Teacher will play a pivotal role in shaping the learning environment, guiding students in their academic and personal development, and fostering a love for learning. This position requires strong leadership skills, creativity, and a commitment to providing high-quality education.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that meets the needs of students with Autism/SEMH.
  • Plan and implement strategies to support personal and social development, in line with individual Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Use a nurturing approach to manage behaviour and support students in overcoming barriers to learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and other professionals to provide holistic support for students.
  • Track student progress and provide regular feedback to parents, carers, and senior staff.
  • Maintain high standards of teaching and safeguarding practices.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Lead classroom activities, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
  • Assess student progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support their growth.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to create a cohesive educational experience.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student performance and behaviour.
  • Maintain classroom discipline while promoting respect and understanding among students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends.

Requirements

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) is essential.
  • Previous experience in a teaching role preferably in a SEND/SEMH environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods based on individual student needs.
  • Familiarity with current educational practices and curriculum standards is advantageous.
