We are seeking a compassionate, organised and proactive School Welfare Officer to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils, ensuring they can fully access school life and achieve their potential.
About the Role
As our School Welfare Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of pupil health and welfare needs across the school. You will assess and respond to illnesses and injuries, administer medication, maintain accurate records, and coordinate support for pupils with ongoing medical conditions. You will develop and review Individual Healthcare Plans, support risk assessments, liaise with parents and healthcare professionals, and help promote a healthy and inclusive school environment. This role requires someone who is calm under pressure, highly organised, and committed to ensuring the wellbeing and safeguarding of every child.
- Provide first aid and immediate care to pupils and staff.
- Assess and respond appropriately to illness, injury and medical concerns.
- Administer medication in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Support pupils with medical conditions, including diabetes, asthma, allergies, epilepsy and other health needs.
- Develop, maintain and review Individual Healthcare Plans in partnership with families and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate records of first aid incidents, medication administration and pupil health information.
- Monitor and manage medical supplies, first aid equipment and emergency medication.
- Liaise with parents, carers, school nursing teams, GPs and other external agencies.
- Support risk assessments relating to medical needs, educational visits and pupil wellbeing.
- Promote healthy lifestyles, hygiene and wellbeing across the school community.
- Provide practical welfare support to children where required, including personal care needs.
- Contribute to safeguarding, attendance and wellbeing processes across the school.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
Has experience working with children or young people in a school, healthcare or welfare setting. Holds a recognised First Aid qualification (or is willing to undertake training). Has knowledge of managing common childhood medical conditions. Can maintain accurate records and handle sensitive information confidentially. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Can build positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff and external professionals. Is organised, reliable and able to work independently. Demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
