The Role

We are seeking a committed and proactive Attendance Officer / Family Support Worker to join our pastoral team. This is a key role focused on improving attendance, supporting vulnerable families, and ensuring pupils are safe, engaged, and in school ready to learn. You will work closely with school leaders, teachers, and external agencies to support families and promote excellent attendance and punctuality across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse pupil attendance and punctuality data
  • Follow up absences, including phone calls, home visits, and meetings with parents/carers
  • Support families to overcome barriers to attendance and engagement
  • Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on welfare and safeguarding concerns
  • Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding and attendance procedures
  • Liaise with external agencies such as Early Help, social care, and health services
  • Deliver family support interventions where needed
  • Promote a positive attendance culture across the school community

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in attendance, pastoral care, or family support work (school experience desirable)
  • Confident communicating with parents/carers in a supportive and professional manner
  • Highly organised with strong record-keeping skills
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding and attendance procedures (training can be provided)
  • Proactive, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for children
