Interim Assistant Headteacher - Pastoral & DSL Secondary School - South Birmingham

Are you an experienced Assistant headteacher looking for an interim opportunity? This excellent Secondary School is looking for an Assistant Headteacher to provide additional support as part of its SLT. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school leader with a strong pastoral background and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) experience to take on an important interim leadership role.

The successful Interim Assistant Headteacher will play a key role in supporting the school's pastoral provision, safeguarding and wider student welfare. You will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic and operational leadership while helping to maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and safeguarding.

Previous Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and significant pastoral leadership experience is essential, alongside strong safeguarding and DSL experience.

Job Role

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across pastoral provision
  • Lead and oversee safeguarding and student welfare
  • Work as part of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Support the school's DSL function and safeguarding procedures
  • Lead on behaviour, attendance and pastoral matters
  • Monitor and respond to concerns around student welfare
  • Work closely with staff, parents, external agencies and professionals
  • Support staff with challenging pastoral and safeguarding situations
  • Contribute to school improvement and leadership priorities
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and student wellbeing

Essential Requirements

  • Previous senior leadership experience within a secondary school
  • Strong pastoral leadership experience
  • Previous DSL or significant safeguarding experience
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Strong behaviour and attendance knowledge
  • Confident working with staff, parents and external agencies
  • Ability to provide calm, decisive and effective leadership
