We are excited to announce a rare opportunity for an exceptional, talented and motivated individual to become the next Headteacher of East Manchester Academy in Manchester.

This is a vital appointment for our inclusive, influential, 11-16 academy, which was assessed by OFSTED in 2025 with Leadership & Management and Personal Development rated 'Outstanding' and all other categories rated 'Good'. The academy has improved rapidly and consistently since joining the Trust, with OFSTED describing the academy in 2023 as '...a beacon of hope and aspiration for pupils' and in 2025 'The sense of community is tangible in this inclusive school. Pupils thrive under the care of staff who know them well. The East Manchester Academy embodies hope and ambition for all its pupils'.

Greater Manchester Education Trust understands that the best Headteachers need autonomy, within a framework of shared good practice and system leadership. Our Headteachers all contribute enormously to the success of their own schools, but also to the other schools and academies in our high-performing Trust.

About the school:

The East Manchester Academy is a popular and high performing, high-profile, multi-cultural, comprehensive 11-16 academy successfully serving one of the most deprived areas of the country. This success has enabled a small enhancement of our capacity: we currently have 1033 students on roll in KS3 and KS4 (11-16), and our school PAN is 1,100 which includes a Year 7 intake of 220 students each September. The school is located only two miles from the heart of Manchester city centre, in the Beswick area near to the Etihad Stadium (home of Manchester City FC) and the National Cycling Centre, We are an important part of the Greater Manchester Education Trust, a cluster of 0-18 schools providing excellent and nurturing education to around 6,500 students, across all phases, in Greater Manchester.

About the role:

The academy’s success in recent years has been remarkable, and the Trust is seeking someone with the determination and inspirational leadership style to build further upon that onward momentum.

Our new headteacher will work proactively with leaders and colleagues in the academy, our Trust and more widely to

  • Deliver an excellent education for all.
  • Continue to improve attainment and achievement for the whole academy community.
  • Lead our dedicated, professional staff and students, seeking ways to further enhance the academy’s impact for good on the local communities.
  • Inspire and influence individuals and teams, with the energy, rigour, and passion to ensure the academy remains an outstanding place to learn.

This is an exciting opportunity to build on the success of the outgoing Headteacher and our dedicated and professional staff in a well-regarded school with excellent facilities, and also the rare chance to be involved at a senior level in system leadership within our Trust, and to shape future growth in one of the most dynamic cities in the country.

Located in our state-of-the-art modern academy buildings and within easy travelling distance from Manchester’s suburbs and City Centre as well as the Towns and Conurbations of Greater Manchester, Lancashire, North East Cheshire, North Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. Connected to the heart of the North West through the motorway network (M62, M60, M61, M67, and M56), we offer an almost unique opportunity for an ambitious Headteacher looking towards future Executive Leadership.
