About the Role

The Assistant Director of Year will work closely with the Director of Year and wider pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure high standards of behaviour, conduct and student support across a designated year group. You will play a vital role in monitoring, supporting and mentoring students, particularly those at risk of disengagement, poor behaviour or exclusion. The successful candidate will be passionate about improving outcomes for young people and committed to removing barriers to learning.

  • Provide proactive supervision and behaviour support across the school, with a focus on your allocated year group
  • Monitor students throughout the school day, identifying and intervening with those at risk of poor behaviour
  • Support the implementation of the academy behaviour policy and help students manage and improve their conduct
  • Work directly with identified students through mentoring and targeted interventions
  • Manage a caseload of students at risk of exclusion, developing tailored action plans to support progress
  • Track and monitor behaviour, attendance, punctuality and academic progress data, ensuring timely interventions
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEND, safeguarding and attendance teams to support students’ needs
  • Support transitions between lessons and provide in-class support where required to de-escalate behaviour
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and external agencies to support student wellbeing and achievement
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interventions, progress and outcomes
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring all students feel supported and valued
  • Contribute to the wider life of the academy, including duties, enrichment activities and events

About You

You will have absolute commitment to wanting the best for children and young people, along with tact, discretion and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships with parents/carers, students and colleagues at work. You will be self-motivated and have a personal drive to complete tasks to the required timescales and quality standards, you must have the flexibility to adapt to changing workload demands and new school challenges that may involve working beyond prescribed hours on occasion.

  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • Is highly organised, with excellent communication and record-keeping skills

  • Has a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
  • Works collaboratively and contributes positively to a team environment
