Location: Stockport, UK - Office-based

Hours: Part-time (e.g. 2–3 days per week or equivalent hours to suit month-end process)

Reports to: Finance Director

Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Part-Time Management Accountant to take ownership of the monthly management accounts and month-end reporting pack. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who can work autonomously, meet tight deadlines, and provide clear financial insight to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management Accounts & Month End:
    • Preparation and completion of the monthly management accounts to agreed deadlines
    • Full ownership of the management month-end pack, including:
      • Profit & Loss
      • Balance Sheet
      • Cashflow
      • Variance analysis vs budget and prior periods
      • Key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • Posting and review of month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, depreciation, etc.)
    • Balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of supporting schedules
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting:
    • Provide clear commentary and analysis on monthly results, highlighting risks and opportunities
    • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
    • Assist with cost control and margin analysis
    • Ad-hoc financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions
  • Controls & Process Improvement:
    • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial data
    • Improve and streamline month-end processes where possible
    • Liaise with external accountants or auditors as required

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience producing management accounts and month-end packs
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups; Power BI desirable but not essential)
  • Experience with accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Sage, or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience in an SME or fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in a part-time or flexible finance role
  • Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or business partnering
