Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Part-Time Management Accountant to take ownership of the monthly management accounts and month-end reporting pack. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who can work autonomously, meet tight deadlines, and provide clear financial insight to support business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Management Accounts & Month End:
- Preparation and completion of the monthly management accounts to agreed deadlines
- Full ownership of the management month-end pack, including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cashflow
- Variance analysis vs budget and prior periods
- Key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Posting and review of month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, depreciation, etc.)
- Balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of supporting schedules
- Financial Analysis & Reporting:
- Provide clear commentary and analysis on monthly results, highlighting risks and opportunities
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Assist with cost control and margin analysis
- Ad-hoc financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions
- Controls & Process Improvement:
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial data
- Improve and streamline month-end processes where possible
- Liaise with external accountants or auditors as required
Skills & Experience Required:
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
- Proven experience producing management accounts and month-end packs
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups; Power BI desirable but not essential)
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Sage, or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
Desirable:
- Experience in an SME or fast-paced environment
- Experience working in a part-time or flexible finance role
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or business partnering
