We are seeking a Paediatric Dietitian who is passionate about making a meaningful impact in children's nutritional care, committed to continuous service improvement, and ready to take the next exciting step in their career journey. Whether you're newly qualified or bring prior experience, we are here to support your growth. For those starting out, we offer a structured competency-based training programme aimed at progressing to Band 6 within 12-18 months, depending on your experience and performance. If you're already working at Band 6 level, you'll be able to step into the role with confidence and begin contributing immediately as a specialist.

This is a predominantly outpatient clinical role, with opportunities to gain experience on the Paediatric ward, offering an interesting caseload. The position also provides excellent opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD), with diverse learning experiences across paediatric nutrition. The (Trainee) Specialist Paediatric Dietitian will provide specialist dietetic assessment, advice, and counselling to a caseload of patients across age groups. This will include a variety of inpatients and outpatients that is predominantly allergy and faltering growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as an expert resource and provide specialist dietetic services as part of a multidisciplinary team within the acute sector. This involves liaising and working closely with consultants, specialist nurses, and community health care professionals to provide seamless and consistent care for paediatric patients.
  • Undertake a comprehensive assessment of a child's nutritional needs. This will include understanding the child's clinical condition, test results, and medication. It will reflect the child's prognosis and individual circumstances of the child and/or family. Nutritional assessment will include the calculation of requirements and interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, and parameters.
  • Establish and monitor children on enteral tube feeds. To be responsible for the safe discharge planning of these children. This involves liaising closely with the community paediatric dietitian, community children's nurses, palliative care nurses, and the children's disability team. It also involves communication of feed prescription requirements to general practitioners and communication of ancillary requirements to enteral feeding homecare provider.
