To support our continued growth, we’re seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead our finance function and support the business in delivering its strategic objectives. This is a highly operational and commercially focused role, requiring a proactive mindset and the ability to provide accurate, insightful, and value-driven financial support to senior leadership.

Working closely with the CEO, Group CFO and wider leadership team, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, high-quality reporting, and effective financial planning. You will play a key role in driving performance, supporting decision-making, and maintaining strong governance across the business.

This role requires a hands-on approach, with responsibility for end-to-end finance operations, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit, compliance, and cash flow management. You will also act as a trusted business partner, translating financial data into clear, actionable insights that support growth and operational efficiency.

As a service-based business, we are looking for a proactive, motivated, and detail-oriented individual who is commercially astute and takes pride in delivering high standards. You will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, continuously improving processes, and working collaboratively across teams. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting capability with commercial acumen, operational leadership and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Finance Control & Finance Operations
    • Take ownership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate records, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
    • Oversee all day-to-day finance operations including: AR & AP, Payroll coordination, Bank reconciliations, Credit control, Invoicing.
    • Maintain robust revenue recognition and deferred income processes.
    • Own and continuously improve finance systems, processes, and controls across platforms (e.g. Xero, Scoro, NetSuite).
  • Financial Reporting
    • Own the month-end close process and produce timely, accurate management accounts with variance analysis.
    • Deliver board and leadership reporting packs, providing clear insight into financial performance.
    • Analyse key business metrics (e.g. revenue, utilisation, profitability, resource performance).
    • Develop improved financial reporting frameworks and KPIs.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
    • Lead annual budgeting, manage forecast and scenario planning.
    • Support strategic decision-making through financial modelling and analysis.
    • Monitor business performance against financial targets and identify opportunities and risks.
  • Audit, Compliance & Governance
    • Take ownership of the annual audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors.
    • Ensure accurate preparation of year-end financial statements and supporting documentation.
    • Maintain strong internal controls and governance frameworks.
    • Coordinate with external accountants and advisors across UK, European and Canadian entities where applicable.
    • Drive continuous improvement in financial controls and compliance processes.
  • Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
    • Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management.
    • Optimise working capital, including debtor management, billing, and supplier payments.
  • Business Partnering & Strategic Support
    • Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership, translating financial data into actionable insights.
    • Provide financial insight to support strategic decision-making.
    • Partner with operational leaders to support: Commercial decision-making, Pricing strategy, Resource planning, Profitability improvement, Support growth initiatives including potential new markets, services and operational expansion.
  • Team & Collaboration
    • Provide leadership and oversight of finance team members.
    • Support the finance function, ensuring continuity and operational resilience.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate closely with the wider Axiom Group finance team.
Skills And Experience
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in finance, post accountancy qualification.
  • Experience in a professional services or consulting business strongly preferred.

  • Highly organised, disciplined and structured.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to influence senior leaders and present financial information clearly.

Compensation & Benefits

£65,000 - £70,000 depending on the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. We offer highly competitive salaries that reflect your skills and experience.
