Our assessment centres, rehabilitation units and hospitals use expert neurorehabilitation to support people to regain the skills they have lost. We treat people with a range of brain injuries – sustained through trauma, illness, substance abuse and more – to recover and meet their personal goals. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of personalised nursing care for service users. Leads the care team in providing the best possible quality care and support to service users and their carers/family.
Key Relationships
• The post holder holds line management responsibility for Healthcare Assistants• The post holder will work collaboratively with the nursing team and the wider multi-disciplinary team in order to provide an integrated, proactive and high-quality service• In the absence of a Senior Nurse/Team Leader, the post holder will take charge of the shift, planning and allocating responsibilities as appropriate• Responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers within their team• Representing (when required) the service in the absence of the Senior Nurse at internal and external meetings• Maintaining good communication and liaison with all other departments, internal and external to Brainkind
Qualifications required
• NMC Registered Nurse• Completion of NMC Standards for Student Supervision and/or Assessment or willingness to complete training• Evidence of continued professional development
Experience, Skills and Ability
• Effective verbal and written communication• Knowledge of current legislation within the independent care sector• Experience in neurological or palliative care is desirable• Able to work both within a team and independently• Able to implement and monitor clinical standards• Able to actively support and participate in change• Able to resolve problems and identify and implement solutions• Good interpersonal skills• Demonstrable skills in leadership and supervision• Competent IT Skills
Complexity and Accountability
• Using own initiative in an unsupervised setting and actively supporting and participating in change. Making judgements on problems requiring investigation, and analysis, e.g. assessment of condition• In the absence of the Senior Nurse, takes charge of the clinical area• Working in a complex and stressful environment demonstrating effective and appropriate coping strategies and promptly responding to problems, including identifying and implementing solutions• Assisting with the annual care audit programme, setting quality standards and monitoring the quality of care through clinical audit. Occasionally participating in R&D activity• Having a personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources. This includes safeguarding, handling cash and service users’ valuables• This post holds no budgetary responsibility, but will be responsible for maintaining stock control, ordering supplies and acting as an authorised signatory who can sign timesheets• Promotes, demonstrates and maintains high standards of care delivery according to NICE guidelines and the Brainkind Quality Governance Policy. Recognises and works within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for providing support, leadership, recognition and supervision to other team members as appropriate• Demonstrating own activities to new or less experienced colleagues and carrying out day-to-day supervision of work of others• Supporting education, training, demonstration and guidance to carers, colleagues and students as appropriate• Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised clinical care of service users using evidence-based guidelines and giving specialist advice to service users• Using evidence-based practice to develop and maintain high-quality service users’ care and to ensure the continuous improvement of the Brainkind nursing service. Following policies and contributing ideas on proposals for change• Ensuring the care team provide all care in line with the evidence-based care plan. Organising the admission and discharge of service users and maintaining all records in line with corporate policies and procedures and NMC guidelines• Ensuring that all service users (or when they are not able family/carers) are given the opportunity to participate fully in the care planning and review process• To be responsible for the management of service users’ care during the shift and to ensure continuity of care by communicating and liaising with medical, nursing and other colleagues, providing accurate and timely reports of any changes in the condition of the service users• To maintain an understanding of and to act in accordance with all Brainkind policies and procedures• Facilitating the safe and smooth running of the Service, the post holder is expected to maintain a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and occasionally taking on reasonable additional tasks
